While it chiefly draws on Western classical music, the Markus Stockhausen Group also embraces avant-garde and jazz – generally speaking, the culture of improvisation. Released in April 2024, the band’s latest album, Celebration was enthusiastically received. ‘You get the feeling that there is something more than the best jazz record of its time. At BMC, the Markus Stockhausen Group will perform with jazz pianist Franz von Chossy. Wrote a reviewer of the style of the artist who is at home in a multitude of musical worlds and is also active as a composer: ‘A superb mix of musical genres ranging from modern classical music to jazz which at times surprises with a tiny note of Eastern European folklore’ – all of which promises an ideal partner for Stockhausen.
